We're all creatures of habit. When we drive home in the
afternoon from work, rarely do we remember all the traffic
lights and turns we encountered along the way. We always seem to
take the same route each day, so naturally it becomes programmed
into our brains. Other aspects of our lives are much the same
way from the time we get up in the morning until we retire to
bed at night. We all have own little way of doing things for
just about every part of lives. Any break in that routine can
often ...

You may be one of the thousands who think 'Strategic Thinking'
applies only to the 'captains' of business. But consider human
stages of life and how
Strategic
Thinking is used at the most rudimentary level.
The first weeks after birth, your Strategic Thinking is
getting others to give you food, comfort, or just
attention.
A
Toddler's version of Strategic Thinking is learning how
to survive and explore the world of people three times larger
than he or she; getting across the room to grab that ...

I've got this friend we'll call her Jill. We'll call her Jill
because that could be her name. Jill is leading a very full
life. She is married to a go-getter workaholic. She has a career
of her own. She and Mr. Jill have 2.2 kids, live in a much
better than median price home for their community, and are a
part of every group and organization that needs their attention.
Looking at it objectively, the Jill Family has it all.
Yet Jill doesn't see it that way. Here are a few of her
complaints:
'I ...

Corporate 'life' is a nasty oxymoron.
Jam-packed days, endless demands to do more with less,
impossible goals, rally the troops, jump on a plane. Miss your
kid's birthday.
You know these painful facts all too well. An existence? Yes. A
path to a paycheck? Certainly. But, a life? A well-balanced,
appropriately challenged life? No way.
Is it any wonder that you are filled with dreams of escape?
You're not alone. Recent Conference Board surveys reveal that:
' 40% of employees feel disconnected ...

Teenagers have a very different view on life to adults. Adults
seem to want to stop you having fun. They are very quick to tell
you that you can't do this or you can't do that and that you
can't be what you dream to be when you grow up and leave school.
Adults are partly right. They know that there is a cost to
living. They know that you have to find money to pay for food,
clothing and accommodation. And they 'think' they know that the
chances of you becoming famous, for example, are ...

Work Full Days

On a recent plane trip, I met a successful 45-year-old
financial executive bemoaning his life with the statement; " I
can't wait until I retire". I asked, "why". He said, "I have no
life". I asked, "What did that mean?" He replied, " I'm never
home for diner and do not get to see my family. I rarely get to
do anything I love. All I do is work under pressure."
I asked, "So when can you retire? "Not for a long time because
there are private schools, camps, colleges for the kids, big
house, ...

Coaching the vocation of mid-life by Milt Bullard -
Correspondent Posted on October 21, 2005
http://www.brentwoodpress.com/html/bwdhome.htm Since moving here
last July, one thing Craig Nathanson has noticed is "the 10,000
people commuting out of Brentwood down Vasco Road to miserable
jobs." It reminds him, he adds, of his own life "four years ago,
when I left corporate America after 25 years."
Calling himself "the vocational coach," a trademark he
instituted when he started his new business, ...
